WARNING:

This product is "End-Of-Life" - The special short 1/4"BSPP to 1/2" barb fittings described below are no longer available; as as result, the radiator can no longer be stacked. The product is shipped with a set of chrome plated plugs to obstruct one set of inlet/outlets, and can thus be used as a conventional 120mm radiator.

Introduction

The MCR220-QP (Quiet Power) series radiators are extreme-duty liquid-to-air heat exchangers designed to be used with two 120mm fans and specifically engineered for high-end liquid cooled Personal Computers.

The Quiet Power technology is the result of months of research and development focused on optimizing thermal performance and audible noise characteristics with low to medium airflow types of fans.

The MCR220 -QP heat exchangers have been engineered to meet today's PC industry highest thermal loads, quality standards, and low noise requirements at competitive prices.

Three form factor versions are available:
  • The MCR220-QP features threaded hubs, compatible with 1/4" NPSM, BSPP, and G1/4 fitting (1/4" thread to 1/4", 3/8 or 1/2" barbs)
  • The MCR220-QP Res features an integrated reservoir sufficient for years of operations without coolant refills, and threaded hubs compatible with 1/4" NPSM, BSPP, and G1/4 fitting (1/4" thread to 1/4", 3/8 or 1/2" barbs)
  • MCR220-QP Stackable: using the "classic" body, the upper plenums feature two inlet and outlet ports opposite to each other, thus allowing to stack radiators together. This the perfect upgrade for existing owners of MRC220-QP radiators in search of Extreme performance. Key to the feasibility of this series, we also developped the ultra-short 1/2" barbs that are necessary to link the radiators together. Four of these fittings are included with the MCR220-QP-STACK.
1-4bspp

The new 1-4"BSPP to 1/2" Barb Short fitting enables the linking of two radiators with a 120mm fan in between.

Dual and single 120mm versions are also available here (120) and here (320).

Features and Benefits

High Performance Low noise

Dual 120mm fan form factor doubles the surface area available for convection of the heat into the air compared to single 120mm fan designs. The Quiet Power design yields superior performance compared to competing products in the same class
Optimized for 120mm fans with low to medium air output

Flat brass tubes and copper louvered fins, with brass plenum chambers and frame construction, for optimum thermal conductivity
Fin density optimized to reduce air noise.

Flat frame surface provides optimum seal to the fans Built-in plenum chamber
Convenience, Reliability, Quality, Competitive Prices

  • 1/4" NPSM threaded hubs (BSPP and G1/4 compatible) for maximum compatibility with various tubing installations
  • Patent-pending Self purging plenum chambers design: when installed upright or on its side, air cannot accumulate in the plenum chambers
  • Integrated Reservoir for years of service with coolant refills in the MCR220-QP Res version
  • Threaded fan and case mounting holes for quick and repeated installations
  • Slim design to facilitate installation, and reduce bulk
  • No oxidation over time (compared to aluminum radiators)
  • Beautiful and durable gloss acrylic paint finish
  • Competitive pricing with same class radiators (single row, 2 pass)
  • MCR220-QP-STACK version allows 2 or more radiators to be stacked to reach extreme performance levels
  • ROHS compliant
Installation guidelines

The MCR220-QP and MCR220-Res can be installed using Swiftech's MCB120 "Radbox".

Radiator possible orientations:

MCR220-QP-STACK
  • Vertical (inlet/outlet at top) : yes
  • Vertical (upside-down): possible, but not recommended due to accumulation of air over time; we recommend using the MCR220-Res instead
  • On the side: yes
  • Horizontal (either face): yes

Performance Graphs

Effective April 2007, all MCR220-QP Radiators receive 1/4" NPSM hubs instead of 3/8" NPT hubs. In addition, a performance improvement is also implemented as described in the curves below. Please click HERE to access the performance curves of the MCR220-QP shipped prior to april 2007.

MCR220QP-hl
For reference, the MCR220-QP dual 120mm radiator shows ~50% less pressure drop than the MCR120-QP single fan version.

MCR220QP_HD_VS_FRHigher is better

In the above curves, we show that the heat dissipation performance of the new generation MCR220-QP (identified by the 1/4" NPSM hubs) is approximately 10% better.

Example on how to read the above curve:
In a Swiftech® system flowing ~1.0 GPM we observe that with the fans used (*) running at 7v, a 210 Watts load -corresponding to an overclocked/overvolted quad-core Intel® processor can be dissipated with a mere 10 °C temperature rise of the coolant over ambient air.

The above curves are very similar to waterblock C/W data and can be interpreted in the same fashion. They will allow users to estimate the temperature rise of the water in the circuit, based on the coolant flow rate.
